Star-Lord and Jesus: Lord of All – Discuss the prompts and scriptures below to discover the similarities between Jesus and Star-Lord.
1. Compare the Earth of Guardians to Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown. John 1:43-46. Both Star-Lord and Jesus are from the middle of nowhere.
2. Star-Lord touches the infinity stone, which should have killed him. How does this remind you of Jesus? Matthew 8:2-3 and Matthew 28:5-10
3. We learn that Star-Lord is half-man/half-divine. How does this compare to the identity of Jesus? Colossians 1:19-20
4. What does Star-Lord show us about the kind of savior we need? What do we need saving from? How does Jesus save us from the kinds of danger, problems, and evil you face daily?
The Guardians and their Struggles – Each of the guardians (maybe with the exception of Groot) has a personal struggle that derails the adventure. Identify the guardian you most relate to. Why do you relate to their struggle? Dive into scripture and discuss God’s perspective on each of those struggles.
1. Rocket struggles with insecurity. Read and discuss 1 Samuel 16:7.
2. Gemora’s family ties get in the way. Read and discuss Matthew 12:46-50.
3. Peter Quill (Star-Lord) has an arrogance and pride issue. Read and discuss James 4:10.
4. Drax is set to avenge his family. Read and discuss Romans 12:19.
Groot’s Sacrifice – Groot gives his life to save his friends…and is brought back to life as baby Groot! The direct parallels to Christ can’t be any more obvious! It isn’t exactly the same story as what Jesus did for us, but Groot shows us where our priorities should be. Read and discuss John 15:12-17.
